Film & TV on DVD - John Doe Film News & Reviews

Greetings Film Fiends and welcome to John Doe's Film Blog. 30 years of dedicated celluloid obsession has meant that I have seen a few films. Drawing attention to some of the lesser discussed gems that I love. Cult classics, obscure curios and quality genre pictures. This blogs purpose is to translate some of my passion for these films and with luck, inspire you the reader to go check em out.

Mandrill – John Doe’s Trailer of the Moment

Mandrill - Chilean for Bond, Roundhouse Bond.

“Cooler than Shaft, Hotter than Bond, Faster than Lee” the tag line reads. The Comic Con buzz was enthusiastic and now the Chilean action sensation Mandrill gets a trailer….and it’s all smoking hot.

Mandrill is locked and loaded
Bullet chewing assassins and elite government hitmen are on assignment and from the footage it’s clear. When it’s time for love, Mandrill can love. When it’s time to open a can of South American martial arts ass whooping, well Mandrill revs in the redline.

Mark Razor is Mandrill

Saluting those who are named in the tagline, with a heavy 007 influence shaken, not stirred the film looks like a cheesy spy ride. Its velvet romance with barbed wire violence atmosphere, make no effort to hide what it is, entertainment.

Director Ernesto Díaz Espinoza’s other two comic book style martial arts movies Kiltro and Mirageman also star his high school buddy Marko Zaror. By all accounts Zaror did his own stunts and choreographed the fights too.

A TV star in her homeland, Celine Raymond seems to have the necessary assets to play Bond Mandrill girl Dominic. The music fits like a Beretta in a leather shoulder holster and the cinematography seems to go along with the joke.

Watching the clip below, JD is hyped for some Latino Licensed to Kill action. Only problem is that it played the U.S. festival circuit in September, won the fantastic Film Fest yet surprisingly still seems to have no U.S. release date set.

Sympathy for Lady Vengeance – Another FilmInk Review

Sympathy for Lady Vengeance – Another FilmInk Review

This is a review that was published in FilmInk I did awhile ago. Figured with Cib’s review of the confronting thrillride Old Boy igniting interest in the second part, it would be a good time to focus on the final chapter.
