Classic Disney Tunes have John Doe in a trance - HELP!
Hows this for a spine chilling image, John Doe sits down on a Wednesday night (To begin a blog that never was) and ends up slumming in the heart of mainstream taste. Spending hours listening to a five disc collection of, classic Disney tunes.
Original recordings dating back to Snow White and the Seven Dwarves in the 1930’s through each decade till the present. There is The Jungle Book, Aladdin, Lion King, Nightmare Before Xmas and Toy Story to name a few.
It’s not just the animated films either; there is also (Julie Andrews) Mary Poppins, (Angela Lansbury) Bedknobs and Broomsticks, (Haley’ Mills) The Parent Trap and a host of others. In fact we even hear Kirk Douglas belt out a sea chante and Burl Ives attempt to soothe vocally.
The thing that has disturbed JD is, the good mood and childish fun is infectious. Opting to start with lifetime favourites like “I Wanna Be Like You” (See Below) and “The Bare Necessities” it wasn’t long before the CD’s were just playing themselves through.
He still marvels at the inspired instrumental arrangements, outrageously silly, stupendously obtuse and blatantly naïve mood these memorable songs evoke. The real irony here is that Mr Doe has no children and has not even been subjected to the inhumane tortures of repeated demands for Barney, the Wiggles or Hi 5, yet knows to count his blessings that Disney and Jim Henson had parents in mind.
Admittedly a fan of many of the classic films put out by the studio over the years, a grizzled cynicism has snuck in during the last decade when it comes to Johnny’s attitude towards its output. The happy little bubble reality projecting positive messages and idyllic promises wears thin with the more recent entries from the home of Mickey Mouse. (Yep the original theme for the Mickey Mouse Club is here too)
Surprisingly this evening it seems the tunes are immune from criticism, every lyric seems to trigger a sentimental response. Tinkerbell waves her magic wand casting a nostalgic spell that remains unbroken for almost 4 hours.
I’m sure that in a different frame of mind this collection would be enough to make John Boy pretend he was Peter Pan launching himself from a great height with the aim of Sepaku in mind. But for tonight he is content to smile along at the conservative, sometimes close minded values that come with over exposure to the supercalifragilisticexpialido cious Disney.
Catch the infectious, rhythmic vibes of the Jungle Book’s jumpin jazz….Groovy man, out of sight.
Disney Sing Along Trailer with a tasty selection of flavours.

Kidding!...but this is a very funny post!...funny "ha ha" not funny peculiar...
It's just the bare (bear?) neccessities, the simple bare neccessities...forget about your worries and your strife....because a spoon full of sugar makes the medicine go down....
Ohhhhh.....I love all these JD....and not just because I have children...
A very spine chilling post JD.
A very cool post.
Hope you're well buddy....

This whole thing started because the CD Box set was in the JB Hi Fi cheap bin for $12.99, it seemed worth the gamble....who knew it would be 11.30pm on a Wednesday and Im singing along to Gaston from Beauty and The Beast.
It is frightening that as a fully grown man I can still end up bopping around the room to king louise and his definitely whacked out jungle beats. (Here smoke a bannana...no smoke two bannanas..)
Im still a little concerned at how easily manipulated I am by the combination of fond childhood memories and appreciation for the musical mastery of the compositions.
Either way its a "strange day indeed, most peculiar"...all is well in John Does head.

although not spine chilling or horrorfying, Disneys puts out some pretty kick ass tunes!
LOL
My two personal favorites are Colors of the Wind from Pocahontas, and Be Prepared by Scar from The Lion King! Of course the old classics you mention are also among my fav picks, I still love Jeremy Irons growly rendition of Be Prepared! Well, then of course there IS Hakunamatata!!!
Sounds like Nick knows a thing or two about Disney's music too eh?
"You know it's tru-oo-oo, I wanna be like you-woo-woo, I wanna walk like you, talk like you, ooo-ooo-ooo...."
LOL
Great post!
Take care,
Nick

There is a knowledge of the medium seldom exploited so well as by Disney.
Tracy,
The Oompa Loompa song has such a strong message you cant help but appreciate its cadence.
