Black Dynamite will strike fear into Jive Ass Honkys Everywhere
Black Dynamite has a tan and he is the man. In a film so black it can’t be shown in a darkened theatre. Pimping blaxploitation gems of the 1970’s for laughs, (See: Black Belt Jones, Superfly, Shaft, the Mack etc) the style and film stock of Black Dynamite bleed its inspiration.
Here is the synopsis from the official site –
“When “The Man” murders his brother, pumps heroin into local orphanages, and floods the ghetto with adulterated malt liquor, Black Dynamite is the one hero willing to fight all the way from the blood-soaked city streets to the hallowed halls of the Honky House.”
Obviously not interested in prestige or becoming a measuring stick for IQ testing, Black Dynamite looks like what it is intended for, niche entertainment.
Michael Jai White is one of those actors who is easily recognized but seldom cited (The Dark Knight, Thick as Thieves, 2 Days in the Valley, Spawn), here he stars in the lead and also co wrote the script. The film is Directed by Scott Sanders (Thick as Thieves).
Triggering an explosion of laughter at the 2009 Sundance festival, after much delay the producers finally turned out some bitches and found a distributor. Due for released in the U.S on October 16th JD can’t help but be ready to go black and never come back.
