Greetings Film Fiends and welcome to John Doe's Film Blog. 30 years of dedicated celluloid obsession has meant that I have seen a few films. Drawing attention to some of the lesser discussed gems that I love. Cult classics, obscure curios and quality genre pictures. This blogs purpose is to translate some of my passion for these films and with luck, inspire you the reader to go check em out.

John Doe is not alone in his worship of all Director David Cronenberg’s fantasies of the flesh and crisis of identity experiences. Whether he works in horror, science fiction or thrillers there is dark comedy, social commentary and a complex tone that never fails to intrigue. These latest projects continue his existential thematic obsessions.

This week Kinogallery gives us our first look at Viggo Mortensen as Sigmund Freud and Michael Fassbender as Carl Jung in A Dangerous Method aka The Talking Cure.

Based on a story by Christopher Hampton, according to imdb this is “A look at how the intense relationship between Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud gives birth to psychoanalysis”.

The combination of Viggo and Cronenberg has already birthed two intense journeys into man’s black soul with A History of Violence and Eastern Promises and this third collaboration is shaping up to be equally compelling. Vincent Cassell (Eastern Promises) and Keira Knightley (Never Let Me Go) also star.

Steadily increasing his output while not sacrificing quality, late last month Pajiba reported that Cronenberg’s next will be As She Climbed Across The Table.

Adapted from a novel by sci-fi author Jonathan Letham, the film is described as an Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind type head screw. Here is a taste of what it’s all about courtesy of Wikipedia:

“The physicists in Coombs's lab become obsessed with an artificially-created miniature black hole they call Lack, which appears to have its own personality and preferences. Alice develops a personal relationship with the artificial intelligence that they have created, while Philip becomes jealous of their relationship.”

Rest assured that these two works will stimulate conversation and are worthy of anticipation. Question is what about the other projects that the Director is earmarked for like Cosmopolis, The Matarese Circle and a sequel to Eastern Promises?

Watch an interesting interview that IGN did with the Director a little while back.
