Greetings Film Fiends and welcome to John Doe's Film Blog. 30 years of dedicated celluloid obsession has meant that I have seen a few films. Drawing attention to some of the lesser discussed gems that I love. Cult classics, obscure curios and quality genre pictures. This blogs purpose is to translate some of my passion for these films and with luck, inspire you the reader to go check em out.

John Doe saw this one for FilmInk a few months ago and will post his review once it’s published. White Planet is a show don’t tell documentary about the dwindling arctic eco-system that captures all the visual splendour against the backdrop of environmental devastation.
Here is a clip that captures the essence of the experience.

Forbidden Lies
The Author and her book

Forbidden Lies

Superbad
John Doe is not completely sold on this one, but word on the street has been strong plus it stars Michael Cera from Arrested Development. The 40 year Old virgin ended up being more than it appeared, so maybe Judd Apatow (Knocked Up) will continue his comedic rise as producer.

Joe Strummer

The War on Democracy
Documentary filmmaker John Pilger’s feature debut looks at the hypocrisy of forcing democracy and capitalism through force of war and propaganda. Examining American foreign policy and how the rest of the globe is impacted by the current climate of unrest.
Here is the opening of the film that shows a corrupt fight for freedom is not unique to any one geographic location or place in time. It also tackles the issues that arise when the US insert economic policies that allow countries to be sold of piece by piece.

I was really intrigued by the Forbidden love scandal and am looking forward to this.

So is it yay or nay on Superbad? I have my doubts, though I assume it would be better than American Pie.

Hi Michaelie,
Forbidden Lies looks liek a must see doco.

As for Superbad, I am not a fan of that type of comedy but 40 year Old Virgin did have something more going on than the usual farts, tits and ass jokes...I won't see it on the bigscreen but it may get a DVD screening.

Thanks for popping by.

Hi JD,

I'm looking forward to the Forbidden Lies doco too. I read an interesting article about it when the scandal first came out.

I might have to con my niece into coming to see Ratatouille with me. I love this type of kids movie and this one looks pretty funny!

I've heard good things about Superbad, too... like you, I'll probably just watch it at home.

Ratatouille - great animation... I can't believe how delicious the food looks!

got a kick out of Ratatouille, it was hilarious and entertaining...

Sorry I haven't seen the other films you mentioned here, but if they're released stateside, I'll go look for them...

Great review as always,

Take care,

Nick
