Sci-Fi that May Cut Deep.

Never Let Me Go - The Novel

Now this is the kind of sci-fi/drama that makes JD all tingly inside because of the Director and screenwriter involved combined with the disquieting atmosphere of the trailer.

Based on the critically acclaimed novel written by Kazuo Ishiguro (Remains of the Day) and Directed by Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo), Never Let Me Go is adapted for the screen by Alex Garland (The Beach, 28 Days Later, The Tesseract).

Tommy, Ruth and Kathy as they are in the film
Promising a unique tale of eerie intellectual ennui, if this adaptation follows its source it will be a film of mysterious intent and emotional complexity.

The curse of research, as JD looked into the synopsis he discovered several spoilers that will certainly taint his viewing experience. Fear not readers, Johnny will not make you suffer for his mistake. Instead here is a copy and paste of the teaser from the official site which says:

“As children, Ruth, Kathy and Tommy, spend their childhood at a seemingly idyllic English boarding school. As they grow into young adults, they find that they have to come to terms with the strength of the love they feel for each other, while preparing themselves for the haunting reality that awaits them.”

The cast at play?
The only cause for concern is in the casting which includes Keira Knightley, the undiscerning man’s Natalie Portman as Ruth. In the role of Tommy is the future Spiderman to be Andrew Garfield (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, The Red Riding Hood Trilogy). Carey Mulligan (An Education, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps) rounds out the central trio of characters as Kathy.

Always a welcome addition to any player’s roll call, Charlotte Rampling (Swimming Pool, Angel Heart) as Miss Emily is good news. Sally Hawkins (An Education, Happy-Go-Lucky) and Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows), the son of Brendon Gleeson also co star.

Trying to keep expectations in check, ever since Mark Romanek left the troubled production of The Wolfman Mr Doe has eagerly anticipated the music video legend's (Closer, Devil Haircut, Hurt, Scream) next foray onto the big screen. The footage below indicates he may have found an ideal match for his carefully metered style and for Johnny the U.S. release date of September 15th 2010 can’t arrive fast enough.

There is no Australian date available.
