May 4th

The Professionals-Dossier 4-
The UK action series sees a new season of hard hitting and intelligent espionage drama .

Weeds Season 1-
What appears on the surface to be one dimensional, recycled TV humour exposes a dramatc and emotional core that has John Doe hooked. Yummy Mummy too.

Here’s one of the many hilarious pieces of social commentary within the show called Weeds.

May 9
Marie Antoinette-
JD was really let down by Director Sophia Coppolla's (Virgin Suicides, Lost In Translation) latest film..It looked gorgeous but he has a low tolerance for period pieces set to a contemporary soundtrack andteh script and perfromances were uneven.

Who Killed The Electric Car- Click on title to read John Doe's review and watch the trailer

May 16

Blood Diamond -
Still haven't seen this one yet, but the whole South African black market trade interests me enough to give it a whirl on DVD.

May 18
Catweazele-Season 4 -
Still rememeber watching this after school on ABC around the time of Monkey and Battle of The Planets., hope to revisit it soon. In the meantime here is the first 10 minutes of the pilot episode.

Flags of our Fathers SE - Clint Eastwoods saga of the batlle of Iiowa Jima may lose a bit of its impact on the small screen, Im still holding out for big screen double of both parts.

Highlander: The Series- (55 Disc Set)-
It wasn't as good a sthe original film but still was an improvement on teh sequels, a guilty pleasure that tempts me more than it should.

Breach- Despite Ryan Phillipe in the cast this Chris Cooper starring true story of an American agent who sold secrets to the Russians during the cold war has got good buzz behind it.
Heres the tightly wound trailer for Breach

Reno 911 Miami-
A TV show that my girlfriend got me into, doesnt warrant a big screen film but that doesnt change the fact it will be hilarious with its dead pan cops satire.

See the Reno 911 Miami Trailer here

May 31

The US vs John Lennon-
Documentary about John Lennon's days of protest and attempted world changing. Looks like a good compendium piece to the movie Imagine

Trailer for the US vs John Lennon below

JD, you never cease to amaze.

I found The Descent to be more or less absolute rubbish from the point it turned from setup, tension and suspense to a swarm of bat-freaks. Not to mention the sudden and almost baffling turn by the main wimpy chick who goes all Rambo... really had high hopes for this, but was horribly disappointed by the time the credits rolled...

Looking forward to re-visiting Weeds, awesome show, and I remember Catweazle, too!!

I saw Deja Vu a couple of months back, and I agree with Bryn - worth a watch. Rightly expect the Tony Scott barrage, but as a fan of "messing with time" flix, I found that this mixed it's theories of time-travel causality, which kinda baffled me a little. Aside from that, a really good little flick.

Make sure you review it when you see it... I'm really interested to know which way your thumbs gonna be pointing... I've given up guessing!!!

Happy to keep you on your toes Yoda,

You can read my review for The Descent by clicking HERE if you'd like to know what I saw in it.

I am absolutely dying for Season 3 of Weeds, the second series cliff hanger accomplished its mission.

Tony Scott is incredibly hit and miss for me, I like Last Boyscout and True Romance....my favourite of his is The Hunger, Revenge was OK and so was Beverly Hills Cop 2. The rest are varying degrees of painful, culminating with the mutilated Domino.

My main problem with Deja Vu is Denzel washington, he just tries so hard onscreen and carries zero presence.. (I do like Mo Better Blues, Devil In A blue Dress and Glory)...still Im gunna give it a chance because Ima sucker for time travel theories....Have you seen PRIMER?, its the best quantum paradox film IMO.

Sorry stuffed up the link there, click HERE to read JD's review of The Descent.

Yep, read it. Still baffles me. It's like a review for a different movie ;o)

Haven't seen Primer, must look into it - never actually heard of it.

I did watch "What The Bleep Do We Know" recently - fantastic doco about quantum theory, spirituality and just plain weird stuff.... really really good!

Horror is the most subjective genre after comedy so its understandable that we are manipulated by alternate cinematic techniques sometimes. Iknow people who thin Scream was scary.

You can read my review for Primer HERE, if your interested.

What the Bleep.... was a fun hodge podge of theories and hypotheticals, a little subjective at times but I enjoyed it too.
6. April 25th 2007 @ 09:48. yoda76 Says:
Scream wasn't scary, but a lot of fun in other ways though...

Read your Primer review - I can't believe I didn't hear about that film! Comparisons to Pi and Cube, and a miniscule budget and indie weekend crew... man, it's a recipe for a killer... gonna hunt it down as a high priority...

Thanks once again...

Man, Airwolf? I thought they'd never release that on DVD!

I was surprised with Blood Diamond... it was shockingly watchable.

8. April 26th 2007 @ 02:54. Bryn Says:
Scream scary? Grrrrr! Wes Craven annoys the pants of me most of the time.
I agree that horror is the most subjective to differing opinions after comedy. Makes it all the more interesting I guess ....
9. April 26th 2007 @ 23:27. JohnDoe Says:
Hi Yoda,
I think you will get alot out of Primer, enjoy.

Hi Cib,
It surprised me when Airwolf was released ahead of a lot of other shows, still a great chopper though....

I have had mixed reviews on Blood Diamond, some friends hated it, while others thought it was good...Im still working up the courage to watch what looks like a PC message film....

Bryn,
You know Im with you, fuckin hate Scream, nearly destroyed the genre completly...its an ok comedy parody, but in no way frightening...
