Frank Miller’s Ronin - Coming to cinemas

Frank Miller’s Ronin - Coming to cinemas

After the gargantuan success of Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City and Zack Snyder’s 300 it is safe to assume movie studios execs are gouging eyes and busting skulls just to be attached to the next adaptation of a Frank Miller graphic Novel.

The latest underground Miller illustrated mythology to be given the Frankenstein treatment is a pearler titled Ronin. Over at Variety.com it is being reported that Warner Bros plan to fund and distribute the cinematic restaging utilising similar visual techniques as 300.

Director Syvain White had this to says,
"Ronin" will be shot in a fashion similar to that employed for "300," in which blue- and green-screen lensing was done on a Montreal soundstage to create an ancient Greece battleground for a $65 million film.”
He adds,
"Ronin" is "one of Frank Miller's earliest and best graphic novel creations, one that has long been a cult graphic novel…There is a classic good-evil struggle between the samurai and the demon."

Historically Ronin were masterless samurai during the Japanese feudal age. Beginning in the 13th century demonic villains and a possessed sword trigger mortal combat that rages over 8 centuries.

Frank Miller's Ronin
A sample of the original art work as it appeared on the page.
The original epic is rich in colour. The imagery and story burn the cerebral cortex and ignite the imagination.

Frank Miller stories unfold in stylised, violent, pulp worlds littered with brutal hard men and deadly dames. The dialogue is raw, effortlessly cool and confronting, part of me always wished Sam Fuller or Sergio Leone could have had the chance to bring one to life.

Embracing the human races darker nature through macho anti heroes, unbreakable in their subjective moral ethos. Larger than life, his characters work safely with the even uglier worlds they inhabit.

The strength of previous big screen adaptations has critically been their unflinching Directors, willing to translate from page to screen with accuracy and power. Accepting the films are set in an R rated world and loyally following through on their ferocious pledges, despite pleas of catering to a wider audience.

John Doe doesn’t have much faith in the slated commander Syvain White (Stomping The Yard, A Know What you did last Summer sequel) but the original text and story boarding are a solid spleen even for a most mundane commercial Filmmaker.

Disclaimer: Like all rumours and word of mouth, this early in proceedings there is no guarantee that the movie will make it to screen.....Hence no release date

Perhaps I'll check out Ronin and see what this film has to offer up as another installemnt of this genre...

Great post and a wonderfully stunning piece of artwork...

Take care,

jd,

i always wondered why they did 'sin city' over 'ronin'. i feel it has a much better appeal for the big screen. personally, i can't wait to see someone try and tackle 'lobo'! that'll sort the men from the boys..

Hi Jonathon,
For me the comic of Sin City had that whole noir thing going on so it was cinematic and teh cool words helped too......I agree Ronin had the Lone Wolf and Cub meets Wicked City vibe which will also work onscreen in the right hands....Lobo, Lobo, Lobo...

I prepare for the worst while hoping for the best when it comes to the new film.....wonder who they will cast .

Hi,
The upper part of the sample, is from the book Ronin.
The other part, is from an other book, just to compare the drawings.
Please change the sample.
