Another Friday the 13th Horror Movie Marathon, What are you watching?
July 13th 2007 02:15
Blood, brain damage and nail biting, its another John Doe Friday the 13th Movie Marathon.
Here at JDM Film Reviews, each Friday the 13th announces the arrival of a beloved ritual. Fear not this is not the kind where we perform some blood soaked, human sacrifice or sexual voodoo involving chickens and a sharp cutting tool (Not that they don’t have their place).
No readers what happens is John Doe and his buddy Ginger Snap get together and have a night of terror, watching a selection of Horror films old and new. Exploding big buckets of popcorn, feasting on a home cooked meal with all the lights out, chanting for a thunderstorm to add atmosphere for extra scare effect.
Combining standard favourites, newly released classics to the DVD format and promising latest releases. The hardest thing is always deciding on a shortlist. As it stands this morning, we have refined our selection down to these 6 skin crawling, eye popping trauma inducers:
Takeshi Miike’s Imprint (2005)
From the Director of Audition and Ichi The Killer made as part of the A Grade Masters of Horror series. Challenging censorship laws with diabolical torture this stylish episode sees Billy Drago searching Japan for a lost love with horrifying repercussions.
Brace yourself, here is a tasty trailer for Imprint
Jacques Tourneur Cat People (1942)
This is a classic black and white exercise in shadow play and sustained tension through hidden danger. Director Jacques Tourneur (I Walked with a Zombie) advanced the horror genre with his inspired vision, manipulating the screenplay into something far more sinister and effective than what was originally on the page.
Here's a tense scene of the feline kind
David Cronenberg’s Dead Ringers (1988),Shivers (1975), The Fly (1986)
JD is on a Cronenberg kick at the moment and having just scored the US versions of these discs sees no better time to revisit these cracking tales of psychological darkness. Disturbing visuals and an obsession with the flesh, bring em on.
Twisted twins unravel with violent and disturbing consequences, a Dead Ringers trailer.
Wes Craven's A Nightmare On Elm Street – New Nightmare (1994)
Having worked through the previous instalments on other Horror Nights with Ginger Snap we complete the saga with Wes Craven’s return to the series. Sly and comedic this conclusion sees Krueger self aware of his fictional existence and stalking his real world creators.
So that’s what on the gruesome platter for John Doe and Co this Friday the 13th. Don’t be a paraskavedekatriaphobiac readers, what would you include in your own personal Friday the 13th Horror movie marathon?

Remember traipsing along with a few mates in an 81 Corolla to see Fright Night and Curse of the Living Dead at the Drive-In years ago. As for an evening's viewing - let's add Pet Cemetary and Halloween with a classic Frankestein or The Mummy chaser.
For those wanting to get into the 'spirit' of the night but aren't quite up to it - why not Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Cheers

Sexual Voodoo, theres always a time and a place....
Hi LaraM,
Would love to watch horror movies near a cemetery especially ones about the undead.
I am a massive Hitchcock fan, but I saw The Birds and Psycho again not long ago. (Shadow Of A Doubt, Rope and Frenzy are personal faves)
