Film & TV on DVD - John Doe News & Reviews

Greetings Film Fiends and welcome to John Doe's Film Blog. 30 years of dedicated celluloid obsession has meant that I have seen a few films. Drawing attention to some of the lesser discussed gems that I love. Cult classics, obscure curios and quality genre pictures. This blogs purpose is to translate some of my passion for these films and with luck, inspire you the reader to go check em out.

George Carlin Live - Footage Included

George Carlin Live

I recently did a blog on comedian Bill Hicks and discovered that many Orbler's had not heard the profound stylings of fellow man on a mission, George Carlin. This is my Christmas present to you, in the form of laughter.

George Carlin
Waxing lyrical
"I think it's the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately."George Carlin

Fluent, relevant and poetic, humorist George Carlin is constantly assessing the world around him.

A student of life with an expertise of the English language, he started work in the 1960’s as part of a duo with Jack Burns.
"What was the best thing before sliced bread?" George Carlin

Moving onto a solo career, Carlin gained support doing college stand up tours in the late 60's and 70's. Attacking religion, politics and humanity in general, along with Lenny Bruce pioneering the socially minded humour that spoke to a generation.
"Religion has actually convinced people that there is an invisible man living in the sky, and he has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these things he will send you to a place full of fire, and smoke, and burn and torture forever and ever 'till the end of time.... but he loves you. And he needs money." George Carlin

A cult hero, offensive, passionate and intelligent his verbose knowledge is spellbinding.

George Carlin
Do I look like im kidding?
Authoring several books and appearing in numerous films Carlin is still working today.
Tackling serious issues and the world’s problems, amusing and stimulating the mind with his own brand of witty redrick.
“The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done." George Carlin

The bad news is that Carlins standup shows are unavailable on DVD in Australia. I recommend picking up the US released box set that is filled with all his most memorable performances.

Click on the clips below (from later shows) to see why the man still dominates the world of comedy.

Holy Shit.

I thought Mr Hicks was as good as it got.

Possibly one of the best Chrissie prezzies i've got

Great to see you again Brenton,
I aim to please. It gives me pleasure to spread the good word of George Carlin. Love sharing my obsessions with others and this guy is very high in my cool books.

Just like Hicks I dont always agree with him, but he always makes me laugh. There is wisdom in his words too, which is rare.

Have a great one and you can view more carlin footage at www.youtube.com.

PS: Cant believe we are online on christmas day, sad, very sad.

John, liked this and the Hicks post, the way you've painted them in a good light is encouraging for me. The Carlin quote about the line and crossing it is important for many people, including me.
Thanks a lot, Norm.

Hey JohnDoe,

I feel like a total dickballs after looking at your Hicks post and not realising this was already up.

Love the quotes (it's all coming back to me now) and look forward to checking out the clips.

P.S. Does anyone want to sponsor an internet junkie by supplying him with a new modem and broadband account for life?

JohnD,

thanks so much for the link to Hicks - wow : he is brilliant!

I cracked at the moths and roared from there through Marijuana and evolution, right back to his Goat Boy routine... (((hillarious))) ((sane)) (brilliant)

I will need to get some of his CDs and DVD's now, going on his quotes!

"I am an evolved being who believes in the light which resides naturally in our hearts, gotta go, I'm being called...."((in the true magic of Carlin ))

thanks again ..

Lilla

I've loved Carlin since I was a little kid in the 70s--Mum had a bunch of his record albums.

Damn, I miss the man.
