Indiana Jones 4 - The Trailer has Arrived
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – Latest Trailer
“This ain’t going to be easy” - Mac
“Not as easy as it used to be” – Indiana Jones
The whip, the hat, the grin, these are iconic images that shaped John Doe’s childhood along with millions of others. The announcement of this year’s return of the “Professor of Archeology. Expert on the occult and how does one say it? Obtainer of rare antiquities” had JD nervously cynical.
How can you possibly recreate the magic of Raiders of The Lost Ark with star Harrison Ford approaching an age where many contemplate retirement? What story could possibly ignite the imagination without feeling like a retread?
Early shots did little to inspire, the original teaser trailer merely a rehash of the legend. But now with the arrival of this first “real” trailer all JD’s trepidations have been swamped by excitement.
Well aware of it’s conceits, the dialogue addresses the absurdity of continuing the saga. The action scenes may be a little CG heavy but seem to have the established essence of serial escapism.
Clever nods run through the new promo reel, right from the point where we get a shadowed shot of the fedora that becomes the familiar sillouette. There is a mood of energy and playfulness present that promises this could live up to the franchises high benchmark.
Reuniting the key cast and crew for this fourth adventure, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Steven Spielberg is again Directing a George Lucas story. Along with Ford, Karen Allen reprises her role as feisty love interest Marion Ravenwood.
Joining the fracas is Ray Winstone as old friend Mac and Shia La Beouf is young rebel Mutt Williams. Cate Blanchett plays the evil German Agent Irina Spalko.
The cynic in Johnny still thinks that the main motivation behind the project is purely financial but with Spielberg returning to his roots and the potential care that seems to have been taken with this sacred character, we may still get one last fix of “The Hero is back”.

It does look much more Last Crusade (ie: Self aware one liners) than Raiders of the lost ark but it seems to have the right vibe.
Indy isn't the grumpy smurf he used to be, shame about that though.

I wouldn't normally be in such a rush to see it but my husband's work has organised a La Premiere Indiana Jones night, so it would be foolish not to go...we even get free Maltesers and popcorn

Yeah, I'll probably see it, but it looks too CGI heavy ...
Cate looks great though.
I like the silhouette Indy shot ...

Yeah, it s a weird choice for musical; accompaniment. The over use of CG looks like it could drag it down for me too.
Cate totally looks like the classic silver screen model, I think she should be good value in this and yes that silhouette shot is great guns.

If it was Lucas on his own however....
But the trailer looks good!
Totally agree about the CG - I really dig films that use it as a garnish instead of a crutch (Michael Bay's Transformers is a good example - those cars are really getting thrown around!!).
But a wis man once said: "...not as easy as it used to be..."

I'm looking forward to Spielberg returning to what he does bets, escapist adventure.
It is impossible for it to reach the standards of raiders, but I hope it matches the vibe of The Last Crusade.
totally with you on the CG theory
