JDM Film Reviews turns 1 year old – Lights, Camera, Action
JDM Film Reviews is Out of Diapers and Bibs
Inspired by Bryn’s Happy Bloody Birthday Horrorphile post, John Doe thought he would also blow up some balloons, get out the fairy bread and have a celebration of the one year anniversary of JDM Film Reviews launch.
Good googily mooglies, a year has passed since Johnny D decided to start promoting some DVD, TV and Cinema favourites that continue to shape his life. Still in its infancy the teething problems are over now, JDM was finally potty trained and recently advanced past crawling to stand upright taking his first steps towards walking.
Giving birth to a site intended as a voice box, instead like a Hitchcock thriller it all descended into a study of celluloid obsession, warped voyeuristic sexuality and the psychological human propensity for violence.
Not quite, not even close. Instead it was the lure of some Adsense Moolah that served as the live bait that drew us into this eclectic Orble world, a monetary fortune that still seems to be lacking.
Balancing out, ample compensation has been gleaned from the variously shaped readers who visit and cyber-friends that have been made. Continuing to support JD’s addiction to sharing opinions, news and views on what interests him within a broad silver screen lexicon.
Wether the genres Noir (Kiss Me Deadly), Sci-Fi (Primer,) War (Hell in the Pacific), Western (Once Upon A Time In The West), Crime(Point Blank), Thriller (Angel Heart), Horror (May), or Comedy (Being There) and even Romance (Say Anthing) Mr Doe adores any tale told well in the visual medium regardless of type.
Over the past year there have also been retrospectives on cult Directors like Sam Fuller. Naturally favourites lists (13 Great Horror Films), games (Alphabet Favourites.) and Tv show reviews (Battlestar Galactica, Heroes, Deadwood) with the occasional tantrum at the state of the industry (Oscars).
Consciously trying to avoid any spoilers when reviewing films, Johnny has also attempted to only critique movies he likes because the bad ones seem to get all the undeserved press. It is also easier to criticize than compliment and because another goal when JD started was to be constantly improving and establish a writing habit the decision was made to focus exclusively on what Johnny boy rated. (This may change soon because fact is it is much less effort to make fun of crap than discuss quality filmmaking)
Generally titles are selected at random, translation whatever is screened the night before. News stories are selected in the same subjective way, whatever interests yours truly is what you end up reading.
The blogosphere is constantly expanding as if it were an extension of the Star wars universe. Satisfying the overewhelming desire to write, it is exciting to be involved in something that promotes creative expression and shows potential for commercial success.
Looking back, if movie gems are film frames I haven't even written the first 24 yet. Still loads more to come and ironically like Bryn, a lot of my top rated films still haven't been examined...Heres hoping I intrigue,m entertain and amuse over the next year as I hope the advances in my freelance career continue.

I have to disagree with both Margaret and that other David, and give this Blog 5 Stars.
When I first saw this Blog advertised, the poster intrigued me. When I discovered it was about a gun-toting, moustachioed baby, I honestly thought it was a foreign film about an Italian market gardener’s ageing mother giving astral birth to Marlon Brando’s love-child in a tomato patch – Attack of the Killer Tomatoes meets The Godfather. It had cult written all over it. I dismissed Margaret’s review about it being a Bin Laden propaganda doco, and the other David’s view of it being a Tom Cruise Scientology conversion instruction video, and went to see it.
I was hooked from the opening credits. What a clever homage to the film Seven, using a Nine Inch Nail’s cover of Cat Steven’s Baby Baby it’s a Wild World. And how appropriate to open a film about an infant blogger with scenes from an abortion clinic interspersed with adverts from an aged-care facility, and images of John Howard tripping over.
By the time the baby’s love-interest was introduced (the cross-dressing beautician into removing excess hair – played wonderfully by Bryn), I could already empathise with the main character. Once we met the baddies and villains and Junior began being cyber stalked on the net by blogging paedophiles disguised as women, my heart was racing. A pacy thriller.
If you only read two Blogs today, read this one twice.

Many months ago, I remember being fed up and disgusted with movie reviewers in general; what kind of wastrel poltroons were giving movies like "Dude, where's my car?" 5 stars? I became jaded from too many bogus reviews of movies I'd regretted seeing..seemed like no one had the same likes and dislikes in movies, old and new, that I did. I was destined to go through life picking out movies on blind instinct alone...
..Until that wondrous day that I ran across JD's reviews on orble! Not only did the man like every single movie I did, but I found myself trusting his recommendations to the point where I knew I could purchase a movie sight unseen if he liked it! O joyful day!
So, to your wonderful sense of film savvy, your delightful way of describing and giving a short clip of what you're reviewing, and your unerring good taste that is identical to mine own ; D ...
I raise my glass in hearty good wishes for a happy birthday and many more. Slainte!
May your popcorn be forever fresh, with real butter and not that nasty yellow goop out of a pump!
D.
Happy birthday!
Cheers

Cute bub! Although I don`t often comment on your site I do read and vote - I enjoy your down to earth and totally honest reviews and have often found myself looking for one of your reviewed movies when sifting through the piles of rubbish that seem to so often litter the shelves.
Many happy returns.

A year doing this is some achievement!
I have read a lot of reviews over the years, and have been the subject of some myself, for my creative work, so I feel some justification in saying that your reviews stand head and shoulders above most in your field. It is a pity that in the commercial world of reviewing, even cars, that opinions are swayed by advertising dollars, editorial pressure and junket tours.
Be proud JD, you shine a critical light where there is only darkness!

First though I have to say
DAVID,
GREATEST COMMENT OF ALL TIME- I love the critique of the review of the site salute, again you shame me with your written prowess...
Flick Wit
As you left a comment on my new site, informing me of our neighbourly status in Entertainment, I thought I would poke my head over the fence and have a 'squiz' (hate that word but feel compelled to use it just now) at your blog. I should have been asking to borrow a cup of sugar, but it appears I have stolen your title instead. My profuse apologies. I was unawares. Great minds, etc.
I'll come and ring your doorbell again, soonest.
Michaelie.
BTW, your grass is ever so much greener! I fear my own lawn will never grow. So I might be filching from you more often.
