The Outer Limits: Season 1-3 (1963-65)
The Outer Limits: Season 1-3
Created By:Joseph Stefano & Leslie Stevens
Starring:Cliff Robertson, Dabney Coleman, Robert Duvall, Martin Landau, Leonard Nimoy, Warren Oates
Picture:B&W
It is said that if you move a single pebble on the beach, you set up a different pattern, and everything in the world is changed. It can also be said that love can change the future, if it is deep enough, true enough, and selfless enough. It can prevent a war, prohibit a plague, keep the whole world... whole.” -Control Voice
Coming some 4 years after Rod Serlings groundbreaking the Twilight Zone(1959-1964), The Outer Limits inhabits the same unique “anthology of science” piece of pop culture.
Ahead of its time and highly influential, this is top shelf TV. Exploring topical issues from a Sci-Fi perspective episode after episode delivers inspired writing, top notch acting and most importantly food for thought.
As you sit down to watch these imaginative slices of socially minded contemplation, you realise quickly that this show is timeless.
The FX may be dated and shot in black and white but the ideas and concepts still fuel the imagination, entertain and inspire.
Every episode at one stage or another seems to have been translated to the big screen. The concepts that arise are still ripe for exploration and are constantly reworked into the modern genre and are relevant to 2006.
John Doe says:
This is a show you watch for the stories which feed the mind, I don’t want to discuss individual episodes because half the fun of the show is seeing what issue or topic is to be tackled next.
(Eg: Time travel paradoxs, Nuclear Aarmagedon, mind control etc)
The only downfall is of course with all the pilfering and respectful homages to the show that have come since, you will see the outline of the plots early.
With titles like The Architects of Fear, Corpus Earthling and The Probe, there is great delight however in seeing just how well structured and told each yarn is.
It’s a pleasure to watch the cavalcade of future stars (Donald Sutherland, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, warren Oates etc) The performances match the high standard set by the writing and add weight to the proceedings.
I could gush on all day about how inspirational this show has been in my life, instead, in the words of Stephen King, “ it's the best program of its type ever to run on network TV”
Again, like The Twilight Zone, the series has been revived a few times since, most recently in 1995. These original seasons have a magic that seems missing from later incarnations and any self respecting fan of intelligent Science Fiction should rush out and see these ASAP.

There is nothing wrong with your DVD player. Do not try to adjust your DVd player.......................... just sit back and enjoy The Outer Limits.
The DVD:
Season 1 and 2 are available separately, with loving care they have been remastered. Though a little grainy at times it seems to add to the “lost documents” feeling of the entire series. A Sci Fi TV must.

Just a great show. I think it beats out the Twilight Zone. But, people may kill me if I say that. But, I stand by it.

I can tell from your blog your a big Twilight Zone fan so you will know what to expect. Outer Limits is crtainly on par with Rod Serlings masterpiece and you will find much to enjoy.
I tried not to give anything away as far as story specifics for episodes, because I think it would spoil the fun. Hopefully I still shared enough to get people excited about viewing the DVDs.
If you are curious you can follow the link I provided in my blog to read a synopsis of individual episodes.
