Coming Soon: Region 4 DVD’s for January 2007
This is a list of some DVD’s and films being released in Australia next month.
NB* This is not a list of everything coming out. Just the DVD’s I’m tempted by.
On DVD:
January 3rd
Stoned (2006)
Clerks 2 (2006)
Sequel to the uber cult classic about retail hounds Dante and Randall. JD hasn’t seen it yet for fear of disappointment so any feedback would be much appreciated.
Below is a 7 minute clip from the film featuring Jay and Silent Bob and the now notorious Lord Of the Rings critique.
Thank You For Smoking (Rental Only)
January 10

Team America: World Police Uncut. (2004)
Fans will relish in the extra grossness courtesy of an extended love scene that goes way to far. Plus additional extra features.

The Ramones classic Musical finally comes down under. Good times.
January 17
Freeway (1996)
Reese Witherspoon and Kiefer Sutherland star in a dark, violent re-imagining of the little red riding hood fable. Sick twisted fun.

47 Ronin (1962)
Classic Japanese cinema that recreates the historic tale of the 47 masterless samurai.
Friends with Money- Featured in Tracy’s Top Films of 2006
It frightened me that Jennifer Anniston was in this but Catherine Keener, Joan Cusack and Frances McDormand etc make it an emotional and amusing ride. From the Director of Lovely and Amazing.

Infernal Affairs trilogy
The original was remade by Scorsese recently as The Departed and this Asian crime trilogy is well shot with high octane suspense and action to match its US counterpart.

An Inconvenient Truth (2006) - On John Doe’s top 5 docos of 2006

That Jennifer Aniston movie looks pretty good, actually....

I havent heard much about My Best Enemy but thought it was up your alley when I read it.
Infernal Affairs I really dig too, the sequels are quite cool.
I have only seen bits and pieces of Friends With Money (The Jennifer Anniston one) but I like what Ive seen and will be checking it out.
Finally saw Pans Labyrinth and it is a masterpiece, I encourage all to see it.
Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain tops my list for cinema this month.
For Your Consideration looks fantastic and I love Chris Guest's other works. (Spinal Tap, Waiting For Guffman, Best In Show)
Dead Mans Shoes, Thank You For Smoking, Monster House are all top picks for DVD this month.
I havent seen [B]Stoned and 47 Ronin so those are my personal must sees.

Wow, this animated series looks fabulous... do you think they will feature the original series word for word?
I have all of the original original series on VCR tape... I'm with you, way too good to miss this "treat ... *woo hoo!*
Other than that Pan's Labyrynth looks way interesting from the previews ... I think I could get right into it because of the costumes and mythological characters... I hope the story can hold it up properly?
Macho Libre because Jack Black is (((hillarious)))... and I really like the look of this Sophie Scholl movie... wasn't she Hitler's neice?
I have been waiting for Stone(d)... and really look forward to watching it...
thanks for the previews ....

I loved Clerks II - not as much as the original, but I was just so pleased to see Randall back.
I've seen the uncut version of Team America and that sex scene is so so wrong....yet so funny!
Loved the list. There's quite a few titles there that I hadn't heard of and will need to check out.

I think the Star Trek animated series has remastered sound and picture and oodles of extras.
Pan's Labyrinth is great but excpect and adult fairy tale that spends equal time in the real world as it does in the imaginary.
I havent braved nacho Libre yet but I dig Black and also the directors style, or lack there of.
As for Stoned, you and me both have been waiting patiently. I have read a couple of bios on Jones and he was certainly a rowdy to rival Keith Moon.
As for the Sophie Scholl thing, I think they were related, Im not sure how. The film is worth a screening even if you only have a passing interest in the subject.
Glad to give these titles a little more attention and happy you liked it.

Thank You For Smoking should make you laugh and think. I will be posting a review by the end of the week.
Thank you for the feedback on Clerks II, I will be seeing it soon I think because Randall rules.
I own the US DVd and your right the extended sex scene in Team America seems is like an extension of the Aristocrats joke when its uncut.
I Appreciate the kind words.

Friends With Money was pretty good, though a few plot points were left dangling.
I haven't heard the best things about The Fountain, unfortunately... For Your Consideration might be worth a look, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
As for cinema, I'm looking forward to The Pursuit of Happyness, mostly for Will Smith's performance (and for the SF ambiance as I miss it dearly). I don't know much about Blood Diamond, but I'll probably check it out.
Stranger Than Fiction, which I've been looking forward to for some time, is coming out on the 1st of Feb.
Guess what? There's a new, slightly touched up Zodiac trailer here... the changes are very subtle but they make the trailer more dynamic and creepy, particularly the extension of the "hmm-hmm-hmm"s over the Rod Stewart track at the end.
Cya later,
Epiphanie

Apocalypto looks quite good, saw bits and pieces of the filming yesterday.
Also Perfume caught my interest after a few bloggers rated it amongst their favourite book reads.
Interesting month ahead....happy watching.

Ive heard mixed reviews too about the Fountain, but then again I heard the same response to Aranofsky's Pi and that turned into an all time fave of mine.
Pursuit of Happyness doesn't look like my cup of tea. The only Will Smith film I have remotely enjoyed was 6 Degrees of Seperation, I wont be seeing it soon.
Blood Diamonds looks average, I may check it out on DVD, but that will be to perv on Jennifer Connelly.
Stranger than Fiction and Zodiac both look and sound brilliant so my hopes are high for the pair.
February is looking good with the release of Last King of Scotland, Smokin Aces, Bobby etc...
Drop back soon Postemodern

I have received mixed feedback about Apocalypto and Perfume, I hope they satisfy. I look forward to readingg your opinion when you see them.
Vixter,
You and me both.
Everything Chris Guest has done so far has been a comedy delight. (Waiting for Guffman is my fave)
For Your Consideration should be a laugh riot for this viewer and by the sounds of things, for you too.
Have fun.

Ooh, I forgot that she was in it... guess I'll have two ppl to perv on then! ;o)
I'm also waiting impatiently for Paris Je T'aime, which consists of twenty five-minute clips from renowned directors such as Gus Van Sant, Alexander Payne, the Coen brothers and more, and stars Juliette Binoche, Natalie Portman, Elijah Wood, Maggie Gyllenhaal (this was one of the 6 movies she released in 2006), Bob Hoskins, Steve Buschemi and a lot of other actors.
Take care, JohnDoe
