“If Fellini made an action film it would be something like Smokin Aces” – Writer/Director Joe Carnahan.
Anyone who has spoken to John Doe for a little while will invariably discover his love for a little cop film called Narc from a few years back. Directed by Joe Carnahan (Heavy) it is a ferocious ride, diving head long into the conflicts of an undercover cop trying to solve the mystery of a murdered fellow officer. Well on February 4 (In Australia) The Directors next assault on the senses arrives in the form of a high octane thriller titled Smokin’ Aces.
Going for a hard R rating, you will notice in the trailer that you see a hell of a lot of bullets being fired but only witness one hitting its mark, there’s a reason for that.
Loud and ferocious, powered by a heart thumping soundtrack, its anarchy sprayed with humour makes me think this is locked and loaded entertainment.
Promising more than just an empty buzz, the character driven script is smart and inventive, looking to push boundaries and offend. (You can download the screenplay at the site below)

The cast includes Andy Garcia, Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven, Jason Bateman, Peter Berg, sadly Ben Affleck too but heres hoping he doesn’t drag it down.

I dig that Alicia Keys is in it ... hmmm, will she be the next Beyonce?
It looks kinda Snatchy too, which I didn't like so much, felt it was trying to be too clever and convoluted ....
Guess we'll just have to wait and see ....

Im not much of a fan of pop singers in movies so the Alicia Keyes thing doesnt sway me one way or the other.
Having the almighty Jermemy Piven (Entourage) as the out of control loser does though. Andy Garcia is always good and the Jason Bateman (Arrested Development) footage had me rolling on the floor..
This wouldnt have me half as interested if it didnt look like it had an intelligent script behind it, heres hoping I dont end up a sad little panda

Looks like all the cast get to sink their teeth into the parts and yep Piven looks likes his role is tailor made.
Have you watched any Entourage and seen Piven in full flight as Ari gold?
