Spoon – John Doe’s Trailer of the Moment
Wikus tells The Hitcher what to do.
South African star Sharlto Copley has always aspired to get behind the lens. Now a teaser trailer for his Directorial feature film debut titled Spoon has gone online courtesy of twitchfilm.net.
Best known as Wikus, the stumbling field operative for MNU whose District 9 prawn relocation assignment goes horribly wrong, he will soon be seen as Mad Dog Murdoch in Joe Carnahan’s A-Team remake.
The enticing imdb synopsis describes Spoon as “A thriller with supernatural overtones about a man with a medical condition that causes him to black out during moments of extreme stress and leads him to make a remarkable discovery about himself”.
The sneak footage taunts us with the former Hitcher, soon to be Hobo with a Shotgun Rutger Hauer as Victor Spoon, a maniacal father who is attempting to provoke his unstable son Daniel played by Darren Boyd (Four Lions).
Co writing with Simon Hansen, Sharlto started shooting the low budget film a few years back and though imdb.com lists it as 2008 production it is still being completed. Obviously the arrival of this small slice promo indicates that a distribution deal is in the works but no release date has been announced.
Sounding like a Memento type brain screw melded with a Videodrome like tone John Doe is excited by this early preview. Combined with Copley and Hansen's behind the scenes work on District 9 and FX knowledge this could well be a fun little trip into psychological nightmare territory. The name Rutger Hauer also carries heavy anticipatory weight too.

thats guys so funny.
as for A-Team - WTF!!! Didn't know Carnahan was making it, what at all would possess him to do something like that. Might have to actually watch it now.
As for spoon, wish they showed you more - I love me some Rutger

I'm seeing A-Team tomorrow morning. Surely a no-brainer.

I did find the exaggerated accent amusing, in the same way as that South African character in Lethal Weapon 2
Yep, Carnahan is at the helm for the A-Team remake...from the trailers I don't think its going to be worth the price of admission but hope I am wrong....he does bring energy to his action scenes.

Curiouser and curiouser, does this mean that the teaser tempted?
A-Team was always going to be a leave the brain at the door affair, lets just hope that when the mind is in neutral it entertains....Carnahan has a few get out of jail free cards for me because of Narc.

David's review for the A-Team has frightened me away, (the name Carahan was the only thing going for it) but I will still check it on DVD. I do have a high tolerance for this type of crap, when it is consistently trashy. I think "Shoot Em Up" is still the benchmark.
Red Hill looks like a promising Aussie Western for sure.
