Supanova 2008 - A Preview
Supanova Nirvana Returns.
Hands on and completely interactive, this year “Supanova” returns to Australia with a cavalcade of familiar faces that have John Doe ready to attack the nearest clone if it sped up the events arrival.
For those of you who have not entered this alternate universe, “Supanova” is essentially a pop-culture expo that spreads through comics, anime, videogames, cult classics and anything else commonly associated with us fantasy obsessed beings.
Bringing a calibre of quality that for a long time was only available in the motherland (ship). These are the stars, creators, animators and other visionaries associated with the creative and imaginative works that have inspired passionate devotion in audiences.
Johnny D missed last year’s event which featured guests including Lando Lando Calrissian himself, Billy Dee Williams, Sam J Jones (Flash Gordon) and Bruce Spence (Mad Max 2).
Scrolling through the latest issue of FilmInk you will find a two page advertisement for the 2008 landing and the schedule is shaping up nicely. It’s hard to say who is the most exciting face to coming down under but, John Rhys Davies (Sala in Raiders of the Lost Ark, Gimli in Lord of the Rings) would surely have a few anecdotes JD would be interested in.
For the Melbourne and Brisbane 3 day Extravaganza, The Warriors is an all time classic and the chance to meet David “Cochise” Harris has Mr Doe ready to “come out and pllllaaaayyyaayyy”. (Shame it’s in the wrong state)
Chronic cutie Jewel Straite (Kaylee on Serenity, Heidi Gotts on Wonderfalls), the real Incredible Hulk Lou Ferrigno, Police Academy’s Michael Winslow and James Kyson Lee (Ando in Heroes) are also due in.
For the Sydney and Perth people there is an impressive line up forming. At the front of the queue is Heroes head cheerleader Hayden Panettiere.
The Trekkie in Doe finds the prospect of seeing Nichelle Nichols (Nyota Uhura) brings out his inner Starfleet Academy cadet.
Morena Baccarin (Inara from Firefly/Serenity), Mark Sheppard (Bionic Woman) and Daniel Logan (Jnr Bobba Fett) are also invited.
Expect a JDM exclusive report from the Sydney leg of the journey.
Rest assured Cib, John Doe will be keeping his phaser set to stun if he sees any Fem-Troopers. Click here to find out more about femtroopers

I wouldn't mind going to a convention like this, even though I only have a minor interest in the topics at hand. The Heroes girl, though, would be a big draw... I imagine there'll be big crowds..

I have known about Supanova for years, but each time it comes around there is usually something preventing me from attending.
I'm determined to make it in 2008, really want to try and score an interview with David "Cochise" Harris from the Warriors.
It is a bit of a left field post for me, but hey I love this stuff.
Back to the Eighties
However, it could be cool, I'm sure there would be heaps of '80's' stuff! LOL

I may give this one a look-see if time permits... purely for John Rhys-Davies ... who has long been a favourite, paticularly as the holodeck character Leonardo Da Vinci in Voyager (Concerning flight [my favourite], Raven and Scorpion)... my daugher will be chuffed at the news ... and then I'll have to go.
Shame I didn't know about it last year, it would have been a buzz to catch Landau and get an autograph...
Thanks for the heads up

No to so interested in seeing the cheerleader because oh come on...but Morena Baccarin yes...only because her name has been thrown in to the 'Who will be Wonder woman?' mix...and with Whedon directing, it could very well be her.
I've seen Michael Winslow live...he makes the most amazing noises!
...if I remember/have time...I might see you there JD. I'll be the one in the Leia costume that has been altered. I have a lightsabre holster...and it's fuschia!
Cool post. Hope you're well buddy.

They have already picked a Wonder Woman and it is some model, who's name just keeps evading me, apologies, but Cibb knows who - he's told me before...um.. she recently did her swan-song catwalk to go and become WW... filming has started already I think - JD will correct me on this one.
I hope she's worthy?

LL...the model's name is Megan Gale but she's been cast as WW for the JLA (Justice League of America) film. Ages ago I had written a post about who would make the best WW and Megan's name had been tossed about but at that time she wasn't an actor so no one thought she would be WW.
Megan certainly does look the part. She's an Amazon, olive skinned, blue-eyed, dark hair and a 6 footer and she does have that mix of strong yet sensitive. Hope she can do WW...justice, portrayal wise.
JLA is about all the super heroes; Superman, Batman, Aquaman, Hawkman, Hawkwoman, Flash, Green Lantern, Black canary, etc
Joss Whedon -director of 'Serenity'- is supposed to be directing the actual Wonder Woman film and Morena is his pick to be WW. She's a stunner, very Monica Belluci-ish.
Rugby World Cup 2007
There is to be no separate WW film. Whedon pulled out and the producers have 'shelved' the idea.

...Megan Gale does look the part, though:

...though the little boy in me will always have a soft spot for Linda Carter:

Leia's costume from Jabba palace good, very good......
I'm with Cib on the Linda Cater tip, she helped me become a man....
As for Wonder Woman, last I heard the film was to be animated with Nathan Fillion voicing Colonel Steve Trevor. Kerri Russel does the WW thing. The direct to DVD release is due this year.
The live action film has gone through loads of turmoil. Last I thing I read was it was all a cluster-frac.
I heard Director George Miller (Mad max) walked on the JLA movie, but maybe he returned?

Great to see you again.

The Guest list is varied with an interesting cross section of geeky gods and goddesses....every day that passes brings us closer to the joys of Supanova bliss.
I never did make it to the Brisbane Supanova - real life, unfortunately, had to get in the way and I was busy when it was on. So I shall have to live vicariously through you...

Damn real life getting in the way of dreams, next years may be even better.
I scored a comp pass for Sunday 22nd June so expect a report when I return.
