The Losers - John Doe's Trailer of the Moment
The Losers are Coming.
John Doe has resisted promoting this one because The Losers is another middle of the road Graphic Novel destined for the big screen treatment, nothing unique. That doesn’t mean he didn’t enjoy Andy Diggle’s Vertigo source, just that even terrific material like Garth Ennis’ The Preacher (more in a later post) has a hard time making it to the silver screen.
The casting for this is what initially taunted JD, the name Jason Patric was being used frequently. The Doe loves him some Rush and Narc. Here Patric plays the mysterious puppet master Max.
Say what you will about the film itself, but Jeffrey Dean Morgan dominated The Watchmen in the guise of the Comedian. His presence as Clay, the leader of a group of marked for death mercenaries seems ideal.
Add to that Zoe Saldana as Aisha the scatter gun outsider and consider Doe’s curiousity titillated.
The screenplay is adapted by Actor/writer/Director Peter Berg (The Kingdom, Very Bad Things) and James Vanderbilt (Zodiac). Delivering the hard ‘R” rating that was essential to a faithful retelling, from the 1970's flavored Redband trailer the film retains the rat tat tat wit and kaboom action of the comic.
In the minus column Sylvain White (Stompin the Yard) is the man responsible for Directorial Duties and JD is no fan of Chris Evans, but still this makes its way onto the "must see" list with stealth and convert tactics.
For those unfamiliar with the basic story, here is the official synopsis from Warner Brothers Pictures
A tale of double cross and revenge, centered upon the members of an elite U.S. Special Forces unit sent into the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. The team-Clay, Jensen, Roque, Pooch and Cougar -find themselves the target of a lethal betrayal instigated from inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max. Presumed dead, the group makes plans to even the score when they're joined by the mysterious Aisha, a beautiful operative with her own agenda. Working together, they must remain deep undercover while tracking the heavily-guarded Max, a ruthless man bent on embroiling the world in a new high-tech global war.
Now the only thing that still confuses is how this turns out to be The A-Team smashing Smokin Aces while Joe Carahan’s Hannibal, Face and BA remake seems to lack any attitude?

What ever happened to Bitchslap?
Film & TV on DVD
The trailer does promise trashy fun, lets hope it entertains.
I saw Bitch Slap a few weeks ago, (It's out on DVD in the U.S.). Deep, deep trash that loses its way fast but can be called a guilty pleasure..average, not exceptional because it tries so hard....may review it at some stage.
