John Doe stars in the Tron: Legacy Trailer!
Shall We Play a Game?
The user asks, Are you interested in being the star of the trailer for Tron: Legacy? Do you want to see yourself hurtling through virtual space on a light cycle? IF X=YES THEN GOTO the official Tron: Legacy Facebook page. Insert an image of your face, my face, Han Solo’s face, it doesn’t matter and the Master Control Program will generate a new version of the trailer with your choice in the driver’s seat.
John Doe was just the right age and mindset to succumb to the neon powers of the original Tron. Back in 1982 CGI was in its R & D phase and Disney’s RAM driven techno-adventure was like a public Beta version of what could be achieved with the emerging technology. Though the film itself had several narrative glitches and the structure was faulty the impact Tron had on the industry is still felt today.
Much has changed in the 28 years since the original release, now the sort of computing power needed to render the FX is considered quaint even by home PC standards. Films like Avatar have surpassed visual expectations, creating photo realistic worlds within the artificial binary universe. The future is now and you need look no further than the exciting video face-mapping app that inspired this post to see just how far technology has evolved.
Light years away from those days in the early 80’s when the Commodore 64 bit system was seen as a microchip revolution, today JD is in awe of what is achievable in virtual space. That the advances have led to him being able to straddle a light cycle and do battle with Jeff Bridges is the zenith of technological experimentation…one that would happily see Johnny call end game with smile.

QUOTE ME NO QUOTES!
what a classic!!
I am tempted to put my dear departed old pug dog Stella's face in there!
I will be interested to see what the new release of Tron is like. I do remember being a little underwhelmed by the storyline, and so the effects impression became somewhat tired by the end of it, then again, I was a rather jaded 26 when it came out..
cheers matey,

Hi Bryn,
I'm not sure jeff liked me too much. I kept on referring to him as the Jeffmeister or Jeeforeno, and he wasn't to fond of it. Surprised really because I'm sure no one ever references the Big Lebowski in his presence

Classic it is Fog,
I think the pug on a cycle would be amusing.
The original does indeed have a story that stops dead then drags. Just watchewd it on the bigscreen the other day and the FX are now dated but still fun in an retro Atari way.
